Our club, the Bucks County Road Runners (BCRR), continues to show that we care about the communities in which we live. Many of you have seen the donations we have made to Tyler State Park and you have donated to our Clothing drive week in and week out at the Winter Series races. This week though we had our Thanksgiving Day race, The Customers Bank BCRR Thanksgiving Day 5 Mile and 1 Mile Fun Run, and the race committee show the power of our club’s largest single race.
At the Winter Series Terrible Tyler 15K we presented checks to two very worthy charities, The Bucks County Courier Times Give a Christmas Fund and the Advocates for the Homeless and Those in Need. Each charity received $4100!
Other charities are supported by the funds raised during the Customers Bank BCRR Thanksgiving Day 5 Mile and 1 Mile Fun Run and have been or will be presented at other ceremonies. Those charities include, the Parkinson’s Alliance, ALS-Matt’s Mission, and the Middletown Community Foundation.
The Thanksgiving Race committee works year round to put on a first class class event that pulls runners from all over Bucks County and the greater Philadelphia area. Thank you to the entire Thanksgiving Race team! (The BCRR Thanksgiving Day Race Committee: Kevin Beauparlant, Matthew Conard, Mike Gross, Rob Hoy, Rich Kanak, Bruce Kuo, Linda Lederer, Phil Miele, John O’Brien, Bill Schaffling, Joe Suder.) Believe it or not planing for the 2017 race is already underway!
BUCKS COUNTY COURIER TIMES GIVE A CHRISTMAS FUND
During the holiday season, the Bucks County Courier Times and the Levittown-Bristol Kiwanis Club partner to collect and distribute monetary donations to assist struggling local families. Since the organizations teamed up for Give A Christmas in 1958, the fund has raised more than $4.25 million.
The money that is collected goes into the fund. It is distributed primarily as $25 gift certificates to struggling families with children in Lower Bucks County. The certificates are redeemable at participating local supermarkets and other stores.
