My great friend, former president and longtime BCRR icon Greg Grace has passed on. Greg was a great runner for many, many years running multiple Boston Marathons and competing as a top age group runner. Unfortunately Parkinson’s took his running, however it never took his spirit.
Greg’s family and I would like to ask everyone to dedicate their next run to Greg. Please remember not all of us can share the joy of running and there might be a day when we can’t lace them up again.
So think of our great friend and post a picture of yourself on social media thumbs up, and perhaps tag Greg and Emily Grace.
Today is a very sad day, however we can create some good will by honoring our great friend and one of the best and most dedicated club presidents of all time.
I knew Greg and his wife Emily years ago when I was a distance runner. He was always cheerful and funny. Once I told him I had gone for a short run the day before a half marathon. He said, “I like to rest before a race.” He had little tips and tricks to make getting organized for a race so much easier! I remember him and Emily fondly. Wishing him the best of care in the ICU.
Thank you so much- I am so glad Greg helped you because he really loved recruiting and helping other runners!
Greg was a great friend and truly inspirational. I remember a marathon from a long time ago when he fell at the start, broke bones in his hand, got up and still completed the marathon. I remember visiting their home and there were so many medals and trophies it looked like a store for trophies! Peace to our wonderful friend.
Thanks Bob- Greg followed your great example as a president and enthusiastic runner. We miss you and appreciate your kind words.
Today I ran the Rev Run in honor of Greg. He was an intrepid runner and person. He never gave in or gave up. As Bob Curci noted, I too ran the Wineglass Marathon with Greg when he was tripped at the start, fell, broke his wrist, but carried on. He past me around mile 14. I asked why he was behind me as he was a much better runnier than I? He said he was tripped and showed me his wrist contorted in an unnatural position. He persisted and finished the race before going to the medical tent. An awesome runner and a marvelous person. I will miss you and will remember you each time I run Tyler. Run in peace, my friend.
Thanks for the memories Ed, and for the card today at the race. We really appreciate your kind words!
Very sorry to hear the news of Greg’s passing. Our deepest sympathies to Emily and their family. Greg was well loved by his many friends. I dedicate all future runs in Greg’s memory. R.I.P, Greg. You are missed.
Thank you Jim – we appreciate your dedication and kind words!
I just read about Greg, I’m so sorry Emily for your loss. Greg was a great guy and one hell of a runner, he could move. I know he kept running as long as he could, his determination should be an inspiration to us all. The world lost a good man.
