Those of you who were at the Jingle Bell Run on Sunday are aware that I am stepping down as President after the Winter Series Banquet. I have been an officer of this club for nine of the ten years I have been a member. Thank you Greg Grace for dragging me into this position. It’s been a great run. I will be forming a committee consisting of the present board and some ad hoc members to find andvett prospective new officers. If you are interested in serving as an officer of the club, please let me know.
So, I’m thinking about some of the issues we are dealing with:
1) Carpool – We have designated the Council Rock North parking lot as the meeting place. Park your car and wait for 3 other folks to show up, load up and park at the boathouse. I would really appreciate if club members that arrive early to run or are not running in the race would honor our carpool plan. Alternatively, I would suggest you park at the Fisherman’s Lot or the Mill Dam Lot off of Richboro Road (Rt. 332).
2) Parking – DON’T PARK ON THE GRASS OR THE ROAD!! You will be ticketed. We are saving spaces for non-runners visiting the Park. Please respect the volunteers that are assigned to parking duties. Nobody wants to deal with any confrontation.
3) Volunteers – The members that have volunteered so far have done a great job. They have been hardworking, friendly and helpful. Terrific ambassadors for the club. So why is Scott still looking for volunteers? You must volunteer to get a Winter Series Mug or be eligible for awards. I know that may not be an incentive for all of you. Just understand, these races don’t happen unless we have your help.
4) Running on the outside road – This is our first race where we are running on the outside road. We are the only group in the Park that is allowed to utilize the road. Please run single file. Pass other runners quickly. If you cannot run without your music, please set the volume low or take one of your ear buds out while you are on the road. We cannot have you running two-three across chatting on the road. SERIOUSLY!!! A little overkill…hope you get the point!
Caesar Rodney Half Marathon
We have been fielding teams at the Caesar Rodney Half Marathon in Wilmington, Delaware for many years. It is a challenging course but if you’ve been running in the Winter Series you are prepared for the hills. You can store your gear (bring your own lock) at the Y and take a shower after the race. There is a nice bar/cafe around the corner from the Y where we have met in the past. The race is March 22, 2015. Carpool information will be posted to the website and yahoo group. Registration price of $ 60 increases after 12/31/14. When you have registered, please let me know so I can add you to a team.
