President’s Message – April 2014

April 28, 2014 By Fred Gropper

It’s been a while since my last message. Many thanks to everyone that made our Winter Series and Awards Banquet so successful. Derek Fitzgerald was an interesting, moving, inspirational and humorous speaker. If you weren’t there, you missed something special.

If you were not at the banquet and volunteered for a race, I have your mugs. I will definitely be at the remaining Bucks County 5K Series Races, the Broad Street Run, the Run the Gates 5 miler and the Mother’s Day 10K.

Speaking of the Broad Street Run, I have no idea who is running this year. Traditionally, we have had a tail gate after the event in Roosevelt Park. Please let me know who is running. For those of you who did not get in this year, you can still run the Bucks County Ten Miler Sunday on the Delaware Canal (runbucks.com). Disclosure: I am now working for RunBucks so expect to see my face more often at local races.

Congratulations to all our Boston Marathon runners: Christine Hancock, Julia Kennedy, Joe Haughey, Mike Gross, Pete Lederer, Tom Beerbower, Bruce Lewis, Mike Accardi, Mike Acer, Jim Larson,Steve Price, Richard Sichel and Marty McMahon. The BCRR Men’s Masters Team( Joe, Mike & Pete) placed 40th out of 66 teams with a total time of 9:04:48.

If you weren’t on Facebook yesterday, Dan Schaal not only qualified for Boston with a 3:12, he placed 2nd in his age group.

Track workouts continue on Tuesday nights at the George School at 6:30. Coach Johnny King-Marino
has us movin’ and groovin’. Special thanks to Stephen Moyer!!

The Sesame Place Classic is coming up on May 18th. We have always had a nice contingent of members running and volunteering. Don’t miss out on the fun
http://www.buckscountycouriertimes.com/tabs/sesame-classic/ .

Point of interest: the Cornerstone 5K on Sunday was my 900th race. I ran my first race on June 16, 1979, the Massapequa Mini-Marathon (10K) in 47 minutes, 213th/800. By the numbers:
