We have had a phenomenal start to our Winter Series, setting records in every race. There are so many new faces and so many members running very well. Our Race Directors are working very hard to make every race, special, fun and safe.
Speaking of safety, it is very important that the rules and regulations that we have established are followed. I urge you to please, please, please familiarize or re-familiarize yourself with the official Winter Series Rules which are conveniently posted here and on the Winter Series page. It is a privilege of the BCRR to be able to stage our Winter Series in beautiful Tyler State Park and we are one of the few groups allowed to utilize the park road in our race courses. I urge you to please, please, please run single file when you are on this road, unless you are passing another runner. If you are having a conversation, please, please, please stop while on the road and continue only after you have exited the road. And last but certainly not least, if you are wearing headphones, you must pull your headphones off when you are on this road. Again, I urge every member to read the Winter Series Rules which are conveniently posted here and on the Winter Series page.
Be courteous to your fellow runners and other park guests when you are racing. It came to my attention that a member was pushed by another runner during the Tyler Challenge; this past week during the Cham-Pain, one of our younger members was hit in the face by a runner returning from the turn around. Thankfully, she was not seriously hurt and was helped by a number of other runners (whoever you are, Janet and I thank you for your kindness). If anyone saw what happened or has any information, please let me or Janet know.
Moving on…We will announce the date for the Winter Series Awards Banquet soon! Our Social Director, Monica Baxter, is planning the event and would certainly welcome volunteers to help organize the event. If interested, please contact Monica (see email address on website contact page). Info about our annual Winter Series mug design contest will also be announced soon. The winner gets a free entry to the Banquet. Only members that have volunteered during the Winter Series will receive this mug. If you haven’t volunteered at a Winter Series event yet, what are you waiting for? 🙂
After the Winter Series is over, you can put all those hard miles to work. For the last couple of years (thank you, Greg Grace), we have entered several teams in the Caesar Rodney Half Marathon in Wilmington, DE and consistently come home with medals.
This is a very challenging and well run race. We carpool and you can utilize the local YMCA before and after the race (bring your own lock and towel). If you are interested the website is http://action.lung.org/site/TR?fr_id=8530&pg=entry. Race date is March 23rd. The team registration has changed from prior years. Each member has to register individually. Once you have registered, let me know so I can add you to a team. If you have any questions, email me at freddyjay55@yahoo.com.
Stay warm and I hope to see you all on Sunday.
Gotta Run!
Fred
