President’s Message – June 2014

June 4, 2014 By Fred Gropper

Happy National Running Day!
I am still a tad sore from the track work out yesterday and all I could manage was a run to the mailbox today. Thank you, JKM & Natalie for a tough track workout, drills and stretches all under the observant eye of Emily Grace. We meet every Tuesday at 6:30 at the beautiful George School facilities. These workouts are for all club members of all levels and abilities.  Come on down and check it out. We have a real nice group of supportive folks to run with. Johnny & Natalie are available to answer any concerns you may have.

There were a lot of races last weekend. Only one of them was not a 5K. The 9th Annual Peruzzi Run the Gates 5 miler was race directed by our own Phil Miele. A large contingent of BCRR members were on hand to volunteer and/or run. Congrats to all that ran on a challenging course. Make sure you add this race to your calendar next year.

The most important event this month is the Equinox As per Equinox director, Breandan Nemec. “The stars have aligned this year and the Equinox will actually be held on the longest day of the year: Saturday June 21st!  Before everyone responds that this day is actually the Solstice, we are aware but have kept the name to honor our tongue-in-cheek predecessors (BobCurci & Chris Mortensen)!!!  This is your chance to come on out to our beloved Tyler and run one or all of the Winter Series courses (5k to 50 miles).  The event begins at 7:30 AM and runs until 7:30 PM, and is of course well supported with food and beverage.  We will also have the grill and tents up and running for socialization and fraternization as well so come and run or just hang out.  I also need volunteers to sign up for two hour shifts – a separate email will be sent about this in a week or two but if you already know that you can volunteer at SOME point that day, please get me your name with preferred volunteer window and i will begin to work on times.” This event is open to all club members at no cost. Come on down for a fun day!!

The Bucks 5K Series winds down this Saturday at Chalfont. The season started in the March cold and now finishes in the heat of summer. Another well done season by all the race directors and series director, Dick Patterson. These races are a real value…7 races for $ 150 and a special long sleeve technical shirt.

Registration is open for the Revolutionary Run at Washington Crossing Park, PA on July 4th. You can register for the 5K or 10K. And then head to the Graces home on River Road for a pool party. Try to carpool from the park as parking is limited.

Disclosure: I am working for runBucks.com. In addition to race day duties, I am also involved in promotion for the company. You can check out all the events on the website. I want to encourage you to register for the Bucks County Mile on June 29th at Warminster Park. The course is on the former runway at the Jonesville Naval Station. Seven heats an a flat and fast course and very reasonably price too.

It’s hot. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

Gotta run!
