Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving and your holiday season is off to a good start! On behalf of the officers and race director, Pat McCloskey, I’d like to thank everyone who volunteered and/or ran at our annual Thanksgiving 5-Miler. Net proceeds will once again go to support Parkinson’s disease research. Our beneficiary this year is the Parkinson Alliance.
Without any major promotion, we had a very successful event — nearly 800 finishers! To take this race to the next level we are looking for volunteers to help coordinate promotion and/or seek sponsors. I know you’re out there! And I look forward to hearing from you. Never too early to start.
As noted in my last message, with the launch of BCRRclub.com, we are no longer distributing the newsletter. Web content will be updated regularly and new features will be added, based on your input and suggestions. I encourage you to send us news or articles for consideration to Jennifer at bcrrwebsite@gmail.com. We will also resume the Member Profiles in January.
In other running news…the RunBucks.com group recently completed its Marathon Series. The season started with a 10K and finished with a full marathon. There was a strong presence of BCRR members both running and volunteering. Don’t miss it next year.
I also want to thank all of our members – old and new – who helped us kick-off the 2013-14 Winter Series season last Sunday at Tyler State Park with our annual informal run, Tour of Tyler. Thank you to all my wonderful volunteers and season long volunteers.
Race director, Janet Lewis, has a great series planned for us. The first official race of the series is this Sunday — the Covered Bridge 5K. Last year, we had nearly 300 runners and we expect another large turnout this year. Parking is limited near the boathouse so arrive early!
I look forward to seeing all of you this winter at the series. All of the officers, season long volunteers, race directors and day of volunteers will be wearing name tags. If you have any questions or ideas, don’t be shy.
Gotta Run!
