On this Thankful Thursday we wanted to introduce the #TDR5 family to one of our charity partners—The Parkinson Alliance.
The Parkinson Alliance is a national non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to help finance the most promising research to find the cause and cure for Parkinson’s disease. The Parkinson Alliance is also devoted to improving the quality of life those with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) by connecting them through a web-based community that provides individuals a place to share perspectives on current science, news articles, discussion forums and other related health news.
The work of The Parkinson’s Alliance is near and dear to the hearts of the BCRR family because it impacts a few of our own. One of these individuals is a former President of the Bucks County Roadrunners, Gregg Grace.
Gregg was diagnosed with PD 12 years ago. He continued running until a couple of years ago. Recently, Gregg has been selected to take part in a clinical trial for the drug Nilotinib. This particular drug has the Parkinson’s community excited because early indications are that it may reduce or eliminate PD symptoms! When asked about the impact they hope to see Gregg’s wife, Emily said, “We are hoping that the medication from the clinical trial will improve his ease of movement for walking, writing, typing and other motor activities. If he stays in the study he will receive the study med after the trial even if he was given a placebo.”
Hopefully research funded from groups like the Parkinson’s Alliance will continue to aid not just Gregg and his family, but also the many who have yet to be diagnosed in hopes to one day cure this disease.
Please join us on Thanksgiving day either as a participant or volunteer and let’s find a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
